WASHINGTON, DC — The East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) vehemently condemns the recent engagement of 49 countries in a Beijing-hosted event on April 10, 2024, which served to endorse and legitimize the ongoing genocidal and colonial policies of the Chinese government in Occupied East Turkistan. This propaganda spectacle, attended by over 50 diplomats, including 21 ambassadors, including those from Turkic and Muslim-majority nations, represents not merely a diplomatic failure but a moral crisis at the heart of the international community.

Amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in East Turkistan, including genocide and crimes against humanity targeting Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and other Turkic peoples, the participation of these countries in such an event is unconscionable. It starkly undermines global efforts aimed at holding the Chinese government accountable for its severe violations of international law and humanitarian norms.

“The participation of these nations in China’s orchestrated spectacle is an egregious affirmation of their tacit support for genocide and it is nothing less than a betrayal of the very essence of humanity,” stated ETGE Minister of Foreign Affairs and Security, Salih Hudayar. “We call upon the world not to be swayed by the siren song of economic gain promised by a regime that perpetrates mass atrocities with impunity. The blood of the innocent should not be the currency of international trade,” he added.

ETGE President Dr. Mamtimin Ala expressed, “Today, we have seen a clear divergence between the principles of human rights and the actions of the international community. The enthusiastic collaboration of many countries, including Muslim and Turkic states with China’s genocidal regime is not just a diplomatic affront but a violation of every ethical and religious principle they claim to uphold. By celebrating ties with China, these nations are complicit in the crimes against our people, effectively erasing the cultural and religious kinship that should bind us in solidarity rather than in betrayal.”

The ETGE is profoundly outraged at Türkiye and Kazakhstan, among others Muslim and Turkic states, for their praise and reinforcement of the narratives proffered by the Chinese government, which distract from the brutal reality of the humanitarian crisis in East Turkistan. Their leaders have chosen economic incentives over ethical imperatives, aligning themselves with a policy of genocide for mere economic expediency.

We urge the international community, and particularly those nations with shared cultural and religious ties to the people of East Turkistan, to reconsider their positions and to stand firmly on the right side of history. We appeal to all global citizens, organizations, and governments that value human rights to join us in our call for justice and to reject any engagement that condones or supports the Chinese government’s genocidal actions in East Turkistan.

The East Turkistan Government in Exile will continue to fight tirelessly for the rights and freedoms of our people, advocating for international recognition and support to end the prolonged campaign of colonization, genocide, and occupation in East Turkistan by the Chinese regime.
