In the strongest terms, the East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE) categorically rejects and denounces the recent statements made by former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, urging the Uyghur people to abandon their legitimate struggle to restore their independence and instead submit to Chinese rule. These remarks egregiously insult the unyielding spirit and resilience of the Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and other Turkic peoples enduring under the yoke of occupation in East Turkistan. Furthermore, they represent a profound disregard for the universal and deep-seated human yearning for liberty and justice – a yearning that burns fiercely in the hearts of all oppressed peoples.

Dr. Mamtimin Ala, President of the ETGE, asserts with unwavering resolve, “Our quest to restore East Turkistan’s independence is non-negotiable. It is the bedrock of our existence and the beacon of hope for ensuring our fundamental rights, including our religious freedom. Any suggestion to forfeit our rightful struggle is an insult to the sacrifices made by millions of East Turkistanis resisting Chinese occupation over the decades.

Echoing this sentiment, Salih Hudayar, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Security of the ETGE, articulates, “The spirit of the East Turkistani people is indomitable. We have witnessed the cost of subjugation and refuse to be complicit in our own erasure. The lessons of history guide us; nations that have stood firm against tyranny have preserved their identity and freedom. We choose the path of resistance, the path of honor.”

The ETGE affirms that true peace in East Turkistan can only be achieved through the restoration of East Turkistan’s independence. The tragic history under Chinese rule – characterized by relentless colonization, genocide and brutal occupation – starkly illustrates the consequences of inaction and compromise. The people of East Turkistan, therefore, remains steadfast in its commitment to the cause of independence, undeterred by the magnitude of sacrifices this noble pursuit entails.

Moreover, the ETGE emphasizes that the majority of the world’s nations, including Malaysia, attained their independence through struggle and sacrifice. If they had cowered at the prospect of confronting powerful empires, they would not exist as independent states today. To acquiesce to Chinese occupation and abandon the struggle for restoring East Turkistan’s independence would be tantamount to suicide and precisely what China desires to fully colonize and eradicate the Uyghur and other Turkic peoples of East Turkistan.

“The Uyghur, Kazakh, Kyrgyz and other Turkic peoples of East Turkistan are more than willing to fight against China to restore our independence, freedom, and dignity, given the opportunity. The struggle for restoring our independence is the very force that has prevented China from already annihilating the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples of East Turkistan,” added Foreign Minister Salih Hudayar.

The ETGE firmly believes that relentless resistance against an occupier is the hallmark of a nation’s endurance. Nations that have maintained their struggle for independence have survived and thrived, while those that have capitulated have faded into oblivion.

In conclusion, the ETGE, representing the will and determination of the East Turkistani people, reiterates its unwavering commitment to the fight for the restoration of East Turkistan’s independence. This struggle is not just a fight for land or sovereignty; it is a fight for the very soul of a people, for their right to exist, to practice their beliefs, and to live in dignity and freedom in their own Homeland.
