ISTANBUL— In a resounding display of determination and progress, the East Turkistan Government-in-Exile (ETGE) has successfully concluded the exiled parliamentary candidate elections in Türkiye, igniting a renewed sense of hope for democracy and independence among the East Turkistani/Uyghur community. This historic milestone signifies the empowerment of the people to actively shape their political future through the selection of local parliamentary candidates.
The ongoing parliamentary candidate elections have been sweeping across the global East Turkistani/ Uyghur diaspora, stirring fervor and anticipation until the deadline of July 15th. These elections pave the way for the highly anticipated 9th Parliament and General Assembly of the East Turkistan Government in Exile, a transformative event slated to take place in Washington, DC from November 10th to November 12th, 2023. This momentous occasion will witness the inauguration of a new parliament and the election of a new government, embodying the democratic ideals and empowered aspirations of the East Turkistani diaspora.
Central to the electoral process is the unwavering commitment of the Election Commission of the East Turkistan Government in Exile to safeguard its integrity. Rigorous standards, including comprehensive background checks, have been meticulously enforced for prospective parliamentary candidates, ensuring their dedication to the cause of regaining East Turkistan’s independence. Robust safeguards have been meticulously implemented to counter any infiltration or interference from Chinese or foreign intelligence agencies. Notably, arbitrary appointments have been eliminated, placing the power to elect representatives firmly in the hands of the people. The resounding outcome of the parliamentary candidate elections reflects the resilience and democratic spirit that reverberates within the East Turkistani diaspora.
Building on the success of previous local parliamentary candidate elections conducted for the East Turkistani diaspora community in Europe (June 24th to July 5th) and North America (US and Canada) (July 8th to July 9th), the East Turkistan Exile Government’s Parliament continues its efforts to ensure a democratic and independent future for the East Turkistani people.
On the momentous date of July 13th, 2023, the vibrant members of the East Turkistani/Uighur diaspora community in Turkey congregated in Sefakoy, Istanbul, to exercise their right to vote and elect their parliamentary candidates. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the gathering commenced with the playing of the East Turkistan national anthem. President Ghulam Yaghma and Vice President Abdulahat Nur delivered impassioned speeches, rallying the East Turkistani people to actively participate in building and administering their own government, emphasizing the significance of this pivotal moment in their quest for restoring East Turkistan’s independence.

Amidst this atmosphere of hope and democratic zeal, following a question and answer session, five exceptional individuals from the general public were elected as parliamentary candidates representing the East Turkistani / Uyghur diaspora of Türkiye. Their election is a testament to the unwavering spirit and unwavering commitment of the East Turkistani people to shaping their own destiny and realizing the dream of a democratic and empowered future.
