On October 1, 1949, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) was declared—not as a “people’s” republic as claimed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), but as the rebirth of the Chinese Empire in a more ruthless and deceptive form. Cloaked under the banner of communism, the PRC’s founding marked the resurgence of Chinese imperialism, driven by the same brutal objectives: to invade, occupy, colonize, and erase sovereign nations in pursuit of Chinese domination over the world.

“October 1st marks the moment when the Chinese Empire was reborn as the so-called People’s Republic of China,” said Dr. Mamtimin Ala, President of the East Turkistan Government in Exile. “While falsely claiming to oppose imperialism, the CCP has not embraced but expanded it.”

Less than two weeks after declaring the rebirth of the Chinese empire as the “People’s Republic of China,” on October 12, 1949, the PRC invaded East Turkistan to crush its independence and occupy it. Since then, the PRC has waged a relentless campaign to erase East Turkistan’s sovereignty, suppress its culture, and commit genocide—a genocide that continues to this day. East Turkistan, once a proud and independent nation, has become a testing ground for Beijing’s most brutal policies: colonization, mass internment camps, forced sterilization, genocide, enslavement, and pervasive surveillance of every aspect of life. It has also been transformed into a launchpad for China’s future expansion into Central Asia and South Asia.

The PRC’s “Chinese Dream” is nothing more than an imperialist nightmare. It extends far beyond economic or military power; it is a doctrine of total domination, one that seeks to obliterate the very identity of the nations it occupies. For East Turkistan, Tibet, and Southern Mongolia, this has brought systematic destruction of language, religion, culture, human rights and millions of human lives. The genocidal policies imposed by the Chinese regime are not mere byproducts of authoritarianism; they are the calculated strategies of an imperial power intent on the permanent eradication of the people it subjugates.

This broader strategy of colonialism threatens not only East Turkistan, Tibet, and Southern Mongolia but also the entire world, especially nations in the Indo-Pacific and Central Asia. Seventy-five years of the PRC Empire have brought nothing but repression, colonialism, imperialism, and state-sponsored terrorism to the millions under its occupation.

The East Turkistan Government in Exile calls upon the international community to recognize the PRC for what it is — an evil colonial empire — and to condemn the PRC’s illegal occupation of East Turkistan, Tibet, and Southern Mongolia. We demand the decolonization of the PRC Empire and the restoration of independence for all nations under its occupation. The time has come to dismantle Chinese imperialism. Only through the restoration of East Turkistan’s independence can the survival and dignity of the Uyghur people and other Turkic nations be ensured.

The 75th anniversary of the PRC is a stark reminder of the global threat posed by Chinese imperialism. It is time for the world to unite against this evil empire, to stand with the oppressed peoples of East Turkistan, Tibet, and Southern Mongolia and to support the struggle to restore their freedom and sovereignty.
