Marking a historic move, the East Turkistan government-in-exile on Monday filed the first-ever petition to the United Nations formally challenging China’s rule over East Turkistan—known to Beijing as Xinjiang. The petition argues that China is an occupying colonial power and seeks to designate the territory for self-determination, as the Uyghur genocide enters its 13th year.
